UWO residence striptease online

Raunchy pictures of a naked female student doing a striptease and lap dance during a birthday party in a UWO student residence were a product of freshman experimentation, a University of Western Ontario official said yesterday.

UWO says it has no business in a student's bedroom, but the world could see on the Internet what happened behind closed doors at Saugeen-Maitland Hall.

The photos shot in October were posted on an Internet website which, as of yesterday, had had 14,000 visitors.

"Of course we're disappointed with this whole situation,'' said Susan Grindrod, Western's vice-president of housing.

"Do we think those involved show good judgment? No, not necessarily, but we recognize these are first-year students and for many first-year students, it's a year of experimentation that can lead to poor decision-making and regret.''

Western president Paul Davenport declined to comment.

The photos were shot during a birthday party at the residence. Grindrod said the woman was a consenting participant and aware pictures were being taken but "obviously she'd didn't know (they) would end up where (they) did.''
